Emerging Region!
Memphis AFN is a regional chapter of grantmakers who advance equitable wealth building and economic mobility. Members include private, public, corporate, and community foundations, public-sector funders, and financial institutions who want to help Memphis-area residents secure economic stability, for now and for years to come. Memphis AFN connects funders and their peers in the nonprofit, public, and private sectors. Together they share promising programs and smart strategies, gather knowledge to make their grantmaking more effective, and work to increase investments in asset building.
Memphis AFN was launched in 2024 as a regional affiliate of national. Membership is open to funders and partners who invest in a range of initiatives that build assets for Memphis-area residents. Memphis AFN members meet regularly and host events to share ideas.

The Barber of Little Rock Documentary Screening
On February 6, 2025, Memphis AFN chapter, in partnership with the Arkansas AFN chapter and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis – Memphis Office, hosted a screening of The Barber of Little Rock documentary for AFN members, partners, local nonprofits, and service providers. The screening was followed by a facilitated conversation and audience Q&A with Arlo Washington, People Trust Community Federal Credit Union.
The event served as an opportunity to introduce the Memphis AFN chapter to a broader local audience and to highlight some of AFN’s work and publications focused on the role of CDFIs in increasing wealth generation and equality. As one attendee shared, “there can be significant social and economic impact when passionate and highly capable leaders who emerge from struggling communities are supported and connected to networks of influence.”

How We Work
- Inform: Highlight promising practices, key issues, and innovations in the field through funder-only dialogues as well as other convenings. Members provide an insightful regional voice to inform national conversations.
- Connect: Members learn from each other and from other organizations as they seek solutions to local challenges related to asset-building.
- Influence: Engage key stakeholders to grow their knowledge and support. This includes efforts to raise the visibility of asset-building within the broader community of foundations, public-sector funders, and financial institutions.
- Build: Seek to increase the number of grantmakers and resources focused on economic well-being. Members leverage one another’s interests and investments and actively look for additional funders willing to invest in the Memphis region.
