Greater Philadelphia Network Chapter Meeting: Heirs’ Property
We invite you to join us for a conversation with national expert Karama Neal, who will present her newest research with AFN, releasing October 3rd, which includes a national brief and state policy checklist on Heirs’ Property, as well as insights from a Texas-specific state policy checklist project. Bring your questions!
Heirs’ property is property (land as well as houses and other buildings that are permanently attached to the land) that has passed down to multiple family members via inheritance, often across multiple generations.
Although heirs’ property impacts all racial and ethnic groups across the United States, heirs’ property is particularly prevalent among Black communities, as well as other disadvantaged communities. Heirs’ property is also more concentrated where communities have lower incomes, low wealth, and low educational attainment. Please visit the AFN heir’s property resource page to access prior research.
