Equity Insights | Learning and Action: Applying a Reparative Framework in Philanthropy

Realizing Economic Justice is a journey that requires deep collective understanding, learning and action to advance economic mobility and equitable wealth building. This includes having conversations that challenge us to courageously disrupt harmful systems, narratives, and practices.

A reparative framework is a tool for philanthropy to advance courageous disruptions with intention and focus, especially in this charged moment when some funders are rethinking how they center people of color and women in their grantmaking. Join your peers on September 12 as we learn alongside Liberation Ventures to explore the cycle of racial repair, how funders can apply that framework to philanthropy, the role of philanthropy in reparations, and examples of how funders have connected their economic justice and asset building grantmaking and investments to a reparative framework.

Asset Funders Network continues to support members in actively addressing racial bias in philanthropy and advancing racial equity through their grantmaking and operations. This includes advancing grantmaking and investment strategies using a reparative frame.

Whether you are new to thinking about how to advance racial and economic equity through your grantmaking and investments, or seeking ways to deepen existing efforts, this funder session is for you. Together, we will:

1) Build a common understanding of the repair framework and the role of philanthropy in reparations

2) Explore examples of how philanthropy is leveraging a reparative frame, internally and externally, to advance equitable economic justice and asset building.

3) Continue to activate AFN’s Realizing Economic Justice framework to reexamine power, disrupt systems, and invest in economic justice in new ways.

This session is for national and regional AFN members.
