On May 12th AFN welcomed Alan Jenkins, Harvard Law School as part of the Equity Insights series. As a Professor of Practice, Alan teaches courses on Race and the Law, Communication, and Social Justice. Before joining the Law School faculty, he was President and Co-Founder of The Opportunity Agenda, a social justice communication lab dedicated to the idea that our nation can and should be a place where everyone enjoys full and equal opportunity.

During this 90-minute interactive session Alan addressed:

  • The ways in which AFN members can communicate more effectively on racial equity.
  • What we can do within our roles to contribute towards an organizational culture that values and prioritizes sustained efforts to build progress towards racial equity in philanthropic investments.
  • How we incorporate culturally centered practices in our engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • How we take the opportunity to deepen our efforts in an impactful way.

This insightful, high-level briefing provided:

  • An understanding of the policies and narrative that are negatively affecting communities of color, working, and marginalized populations.
  • How philanthropy can have a critical role in redirecting national and local policy to benefit asset building.
