Marion Johnson serves as the Carolinas Program Officer for Asset Funders Network (AFN). In this role, she brings together grantmakers, policymakers, and key stakeholders to align strategies, invest in proven and emerging solutions, and advance economic equity and mobility in the region. She has worked in federal, state, and local policy research and advocacy, on issues including LGBTQI health, voting rights, and work/family policies like paid sick days and paid family leave.
Before AFN, Marion worked as a director on the consulting team at Frontline Solutions, a Black-owned social justice consulting firm. There, she supported clients in strategic planning, organizational culture, and learning & evaluation, all with a strong equity lens. Marion also worked as the Policy Advocate at the NC Budget & Tax Center, working to inform and empower community members about the state budgeting process. She currently serves on the board of Dataworks NC, and previously served as a founding steering committee member of Durham’s participatory budgeting process, as well as a co-chair of the Durham People’s Alliance.
Marion holds a Masters of Public Policy from Duke University, and an honors Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wellesley College. She proudly and joyfully calls Durham, North Carolina home.
