Dorcas Young Griffin serves as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Shelby County Government. She has served in various roles during her 18 years in local government including as Public Health Coordinator, Ryan White HIV Program Administrator and Director for the Division of Community Services. Prior to joining Shelby County, Mrs. Griffin worked for the University of Memphis Center for Community Building and Neighborhood Action, Glorious Future Head Start and The Church Health Center. She has extensive experience in grants management, leadership, program planning, development, and implementation. Mrs. Griffin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; a Master of Public Administration from the University of Memphis; and is currently a PhD student in Urban Affairs at the University of Memphis. Her community involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors for St. Mary’s Episcopal School, the Children’s Foundation of Memphis, the Memphis and Shelby County Crime Commission and the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis. She is also a graduate of the New Memphis Fellows Program and the Leadership Memphis Executive Program, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
