Expanding Wealth Building Opportunities by Democratizing Commercial Real Estate Investment
Shared investment models in commercial real estate offer the potential to democratize wealth and broaden asset building through strategies that have typically been accessible primarily to higher-income households. Inclusive ownership of real estate is an emerging strategy for more equitable and just economic development and household economic mobility. According to a forthcoming report from the Aspen Institute, this emerging model is ripe for deepening understanding in broadening the range of available asset classes and promoting greater investment and philanthropic support of shared equity opportunities.
Please join the New York City and Greater Newark Asset Funders Networks on October 22, 2024, with speaker Katherine Lucas McKay, Associate Director, Insights and Evidence at Aspen Institute as she shares insights from her paper A Primer on Investing in Inclusive Owned Commercial Real Estate. This discussion will focus on proven concepts and how impact investors and philanthropy can scale as a way to:
- Offer a blended rate of return to meet the needs of a variety of investors;
- Revitalize disinvested neighborhoods and main street corridors, particularly within communities of color that have experienced wealth extraction;
- Provide expanded investment models among people with little net worth to invest and build wealth, especially those who have been excluded from economic opportunities due to racial discrimination; and
- Ensure that residents and community members are able to influence and share in the returns from the developments.
This meeting will be held in person at the Philanthropy New York Office. Please RSVP to paula@assetfunders.org. Space is limited.
Intended audience: This is a funder-only discussion engaging New York City and Greater Newark funders.
