Change Makers Activate! Bolder Advocacy Training

AFN Members Only Event.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!

Policy change is an essential part of reimagining and building new structures which advance targeted wealth building and dismantling structures at the root of racial, ethnic, and gender wealth inequities. Grantmakers, especially in partnership with their nonprofit partners, have a critical role to play in advancing change.

Please join us on June 10th for a 90-minute training designed to inspire and activate grantmakers’ voices in policy and advocacy as well as help funders support nonprofit partner policy change efforts. This training is the first of three. During this session we will:

  • Discuss the critical importance of engaging in policy to achieve goals
  • Provide a legal overview of what is possible for how both nonprofit partners and funders can engage in policy and advocacy
  • Distinguish between legal requirements and current organizational guidelines
  • Offer specific action steps you can take to advance policy efforts within your organization

As a member of AFN, you also receive the benefit of sharing our resources and we encourage you to invite your nonprofit partners to this training session to advance shared goals together. We also encourage you to invite any Board members or Trustees who might benefit from this training. Please email beth@assetfunders.org for the nonprofit partner registration link.

UPCOMING SESSIONS in 2021: Date TBD

Changemakers Activate Session II – Policy Case Study- State Earned Income Tax Credit/Rebate
Join us for an in-depth exploration of how funders and nonprofit partners worked together to advance a shared policy goal.  Through the lens of EITC campaign efforts in at least two states we’ll discuss the type of activities, and roles of different partners as well as how strategies were developed and implemented.  We’ll hear what challenges, surprises, and lessons learned resulted along the way, as well as opportunities gained or potentially different approaches to incorporate for next time. This will be an opportunity to examine in more detail how funders and community partners can effectively engage together in the policy space.

Changemakers Activate Session III – Board and Trustee Members only

We will discuss AFN’s purpose and goals in engaging in policy and why its a valuable space for foundations to participate in both funding and using their own voice.  We’ll  address each organization’s challenges to work on policy issues and identify avenues and concrete steps for each organization to begin or deepen engagement
