California Social Housing: A path toward achieving affordable housing, permanently

High housing costs are a major barrier to economic mobility and equitable wealth creation. California’s housing affordability crisis, where one in three renters pays more than half of their income in rent, is particularly acute. The magnitude and complexity of California’s housing issues require bold innovations, especially to ensure equity. Social housing is a promising path toward achieving permanently affordable housing in California. Social housing is publicly-, community-, or resident-owned housing that is permanently affordable for people at all income levels.

In this webinar, leading social housing practitioners and visionaries will share how social housing creates permanently affordable, mixed-income housing where residents have both protections from wrongful eviction and an opportunity to make meaningful decisions. You’ll hear more about the efforts that led to California’s landmark study of social housing and the innovative statewide community engagement approach to shaping the study. Funders will also share how their philanthropic investments are supporting advocates, researchers, and organizers to advance a vision of social housing in California.

Join us on Tuesday, June 10, 10:00-11:00 A.M. PT for a conversation on how to catalyze California’s social housing study into a future where all Californians can afford to live and thrive.
