Dallas at an Inflection Point: Aligning Workforce Systems with a World-Class Economy
In 2022, the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area generated nearly $689 billion in GDP – ranking it among the largest economies globally and accounting for 3 percent of total U.S. metropolitan output. The region has attracted more than 100 corporate relocations and expansions since 2018 and now hosts over 300 corporate headquarters, including 24 Fortune 500 companies. With more than 1.3 million jobs added since 2010, Dallas is a premier hub for
finance, technology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and corporate operations.
Yet rapid economic growth has not translated evenly into economic mobility. Dallas faces a defining question: Will its extraordinary expansion produce inclusive prosperity, or deepen existing divides?
The Dallas Workforce Steering Committee of the North Texas Asset Funders Network (NTXAFN) commissioned this landscape analysis to answer that question and chart a path forward. This analysis included literature review, synthesis of strategic plans, review of national policy trends, labor market forecasts, and qualitative stakeholder input to outline the promising practices, ongoing challenges, and strategic opportunities that shape the future of Dallas’s workforce development ecosystem.
The findings are clear: Dallas possesses the assets, leadership, and policy environment to be come a national exemplar of career-connected workforce development. What it lacks is system integration at scale.
