Texas Statewide Three-Part Virtual Learning Series: The Shared Ownership Economy – Session One
Employee and community ownership are gaining attention across Texas as practical strategies for building wealth that stays with workers and their communities. Through structures such as worker cooperatives, employee stock ownership plans, and employee ownership trusts, these models give workers a stake in the businesses they help build, keeping good jobs, profits, and decisions rooted in local communities.
This conversation comes at a pivotal moment for Texas. A major wave of business owners is nearing retirement, new federal funding approved this year supports state employee ownership programs, and Texas is already home to more than 300 employee-owned companies.
Join the Asset Funders Network, the Lafayette Square Institute, and the Texas Center for Employee Ownership for a 60-minute conversation on how philanthropy can help grow the shared ownership economy in Texas. Designed as an introductory invitation to learn together, this session will build a shared understanding of the landscape and the opportunities ahead and connect participants with the organizations leading this work. For those who would benefit from a foundational introduction, we’ll share a brief “Employee Ownership 101” resource in advance.
Participants will leave with:
- A clear understanding of what employee and community ownership are, and why they are gaining traction as wealth-building strategies in Texas.
- A view of the policy momentum building ahead of the 2027 Texas legislative session, and where philanthropy can help shape it.
- Examples of the organizations and initiatives leading employee ownership work across Texas.
- Practical, tangible ways philanthropy can engage over the coming year.
