AFN Greater Philadelphia Chapter: Economic Stability & Mobility Study Findings

What will it take to create real economic opportunity in Philadelphia?

Join local funders, community leaders, and Federal Reserve researchers for a conversation grounded in new data and resident voices.

In April 2025, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia released “Understanding Economic Stability and Economic Mobility in Philadelphia”—a mixed-methods study that captures the lived experiences of residents navigating income, work, caregiving, health, and housing.

The Report findings surface urgent realities:

  • Widespread income instability—even among those working multiple jobs
  • Persistent structural barriers to employment
  • Residents’ strong desire for stability as a foundation for upward mobility
  • A call for better jobs and holistic supports for health and well-being

This session will unpack the report’s key insights and explore how philanthropy can respond—through more targeted investments, cross-sector collaboration, and long-term strategies that center stability, equity, and voice.

Speakers:

Ashley Putnam, Director, Economic Growth & Mobility Project, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia

Bryan Stuart, Economic Advisor and Economist, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia

Catie Wolfgang, Officer, Philadelphia Research and Policy Initiative, The Pew Charitable Trusts
