North Texas AFN presents Building Assets and Economic Opportunity through Career Pathways

Jun 02, 2015

Good jobs with career pathways benefit both families and communities

Good jobs are asset-building vehicles that help workers advance across the life course, provide their families with financial security, support wealth building, and strengthen whole communities.

A lack of relevant in-demand skills often puts good jobs out of reach for low-income workers and fuels gender and racial wealth gaps.

Join the North Texas Asset Funders Network for its Summer Funders Forum: Building Assets and Economic Opportunity through Career Pathways, for an important conversation about the roles that philanthropy and the nonprofit sector can play in helping low-income families succeed in North Texas. Participants will hear an update on findings about labor market conditions in the DFW region, recommendations for addressing the mismatch between employer needs and the skills of current low-income job seekers, as well as an engaging discussion with national and regional funders and practitioners about best practices from across the US that could be replicated locally.

Speakers include:

Bob Nicholson, NPower
Jaimi Cortes, The Women's Foundation of California
Loh-Sze Leung, Jobs for the Future
Mark Popovich, The Hitachi Foundation
